EA Responds To Consumerist’s ‘Worst Company In America 2012’ Win
Unlike previous companies who “won” the award from The Consumerist, EA has taken a bit of a… different route to accepting victory/defeat. In a statement to Kotaku, EA Senior Director of Corporate Communications John Reseburg said this:
We’re sure that British Petroleum, AIG, Philip Morris, and Halliburton are all relieved they weren’t nominated this year. We’re going to continue making award-winning games and services played by more than 300 million people worldwide.
Sound a bit cocky, eh? Apparently forgetting the point that the contest was done entirely by readers of the website (I guess you might not be as popular as you think, John), Reseburg also went on to point out Bioware released Mass Effect 3 and won Best Developer from The Escapist. (Dragon Age II is sure doing swell, right?)
The Consumerist has already responded to his comment, pointing out that previous WCIA winners can’t win again under normal circumstances.
Perhaps three out of four of those companies weren’t nominated this year because they’ve already won. BP took home the Golden Poo last year. AIG won in 2009, and Halliburton was crowned the champ back in our first ever tournament in 2006.
I’m sure Philip Morris doesn’t exactly feel safe, considering The Consumerist is likely preparing a “Lifetime Achievement Award in being Terrible People” title for them.
If it wasn’t for the whole “your customer base voted you worse than the bank they have to borrow from to afford your games” thing, maybe Reseburg would have a point. But this was done by readers of The Consumerist, not the website itself. Perhaps save the outrage for internal communications, rather than blaming your customers?
